National Disability Insurance Scheme

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian government initiative that provides funding for people with permanent and significant disabilities. The NDIS provides support for people with disabilities to access services and equipment, as well as providing funding for long-term disability-related support.

The NDIS is designed to be person-centered, meaning that the individual with a disability has control over the funding they receive, and can choose the support and services that best suit their needs. The scheme aims to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities by providing them with the resources they need to live independently and participate in their communities.

Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a service provided under the Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to support people with disabilities to live independently. SIL funding can be used to provide in-home support for daily living tasks, as well as support for accessing the community and participating in social activities. SIL aims to help people with disabilities live as independently as possible, while also ensuring their safety and well-being. The support provided is tailored to the individual's needs and preferences, and may include trained staff, assistive technology, and modifications to the living environment. SIL is overseen by the NDIA and is available to those who have been assessed as needing 24-hour support and have funding allocated for this purpose under their NDIS plan. 

Support Coordination Services

Support Coordinators work with participants to identify their needs and goals, and develop a plan to meet these goals. They also help participants to understand and manage their funding, and ensure that the services and providers they use are appropriate and of high quality. Support Coordination is available to all NDIS participants, and can be tailored to meet their individual needs and preferences. It can be provided by an NDIS registered provider or by an individual, such as a family member or friend. The NDIS oversees the provision of Support Coordination services, and works with participants and providers to ensure that the services provided are of high quality and meet the needs of participants.
